"What do you want to do tonight?" "Umm... I dunno.... Moles?"

The nightlife in Bath is limited. Local pubs, trendy student bars, tourist spots. Sometimes you just want to see a live gig or dance to music that isn't Rhianna. Moles to the rescue! Theme nights and live gigs abound in this unique little spot. The club is a great idea, but its not always executed well. It's in the basement of a big house on George Street, in what I'm assuming was the servants' area. Sounds cool, right? But when you've got dozens and dozens of bodies crammed into an unventilated basement, it gets hot. When it gets hot, these bodies sweat. You then have to get very drunk so that you won't notice other people's sweat dropping from the ceiling onto your flushed forehead.

As for the gigs, I've been to two live shows here, the Dead 60's and another for a local band. Both were great and I was so relieved to find a spot where I could jump, sing, dance, and listen to live music with other people who appreciated it. Music is played after the show, but whoever DJ's clearly goes for novelty value rather than skillful sets. Madonna, followed by Random 90's R&B Song, Sex Pistols, N'Sync, etc. Depending on your level of inebriation and silliness, it can actually be fun to dance to! I think Tuesday nights is "Cheese" night, when they purposely play this type of music.

If you're planning a night out in Bath, there's one of two places you're likely to end up; Back to Mine or Moles. Due to the ridiculously strict council rules that clubs must adhere to a certain noise level and close at a certain time, there is hardly anywhere for the youngsters of Bath to have a good time on a Saturday night.

But Moles tries its best and, on the whole, succeeds to give clubbers great live music in an intimate venue. There's always a friendly party atmosphere to be found, but I wouldn't recommend anyone with claustrophobia. It's friendly for a reason - there's no escape from mingling with strangers at this tiny club.

Over the years Moles has had Portishead, The Smiths, The Cure and PJ Harvey grace their stage (to name but a few) so it's a perfect place to hear an up and coming star.

Mole's is my absolute favourite club of all time. It's a rock n roll club, with dirty dark roots showing and nothing to be ashamed of.

The entrance fee is typically £5, but the drinks are the cheapest here I've found in Bath -- you won't be wowed by the fine selection of whiskys, but you can happily sup all night for £20, which is important when you're young and/or poor.

The best thing about Mole's is the music, and that's why it exists. The people at Mole's love music of all kinds. From Indie Nights to Blues Nights to 70s themes and punk rawk raw, music is why Mole's opened, and why it continues to have a heaving crowd most nights of the week.

The great DJs, including Leonie Leroide and other well known Bath personalities, aren't afraid to mix things that don't go together, and do it with aplomb. But they aren't turning out the same old tired David Guetta trash -- they're mixing their own stuff, and doing it without needing the crowd to kiss their derrieres.

The staff are all really helpful and polite, which one doesn't expect in a dirty dingy rock club, and some of them have even become friends of ours.

There are three different bits to Mole's, playing different types of music, which is quite nice. You can go upstairs into the red room, pastered with photos and posters of famous and not-so-famous folk, and hear some older stuff, usually the Bobs -- Dylan and Marley make one or more appearances each night.

Downstairs tends to be the live act or clubby-dancy music, depending upon the night and the crowd.

A friendly little club where people of all ages and marketing bands will feel comfortable.

Moles is a club in a basement in George Street. It has Live music and Club nights.

I haven't been to Moles for a while now but saw some good local and national bands there a few years ago. I have just checked their website and Franz Ferdinand are playing there soon.

Moles is a small venue and has a very low ceiling so it does get boiling hot on a club night.

The calibre of upcoming artists this place attracts is phenomenal. Admittedly alongside some of those artists are the sorts of acts who wouldn't get to play anywhere if they weren't bringing their mates along, but it's the unpredictability that makes places like this fun. The layout of the club means that it's not particularly good when it's sold out as the area in front of the stage is pretty small, though the professional sound engineers they get working there mean that usually you get a really good sound out of bands playing there. The beer is a bit gross and flat, but this isn't the sort of place you come to for good beer.

Look out for nights hosted by Purr, who have a good quality filter for what they put on

I saw Marillion here in the early 1990s, and remember the place vividly.
Set into the pavement, the venue is tightly packed, dark, and very sweaty - with the crowd virtually sitting on the band's laps. I can't really remember how good the sound was, but the atmosphere was out of this world.
I didn't drink there - there is a pub just around the corner, and a cafe above (or was, anyway).
      Heartily recommended.

I agree with previous reviewers - my absolute favourite club of all time! The best cheesy Tuesday nights to be had, entrance fee and drinks are reasonably priced and you're guaranteed to have a great time and have a laugh. I can't wait for it to come back!

mostly student indie types, cheese night is good, about the only place i know that plays Hanson and the Baywatch theme song. 4 stars because it can be good compared to what the other clubs in Bath offer

moles has a bit of a split personality, really good as its live music venue, however as a club its rather poor, its got the indie/ alternative vibe going and can at times be good funbut i'v been a few times when the place fails to fill up at all, even on what one would assume to be a busy night, they do have a fairly decent drinks selection but this wont make up for when the club is empty bar one pilled out 40 year old on the dance floor..approach with caution (when its just a normal club night)
