Palmers Pet Care

I was a regular for about a year, but even so, not once did I get a welcome. The place also smells of some weird dog treat...I once remarked on it, as they keep them right by the counter. The last time I was there I asked....'Where are the dog biscuits?'...to which the lady replied....'Where they usually are!!!!' Classic. After that I thought I'd go elsewhere. Now I go to primrose hill pets...they are really nice, smile at all their customers and give my dog a treat or two.

This pet store is conveniently placed in Camden and has been an established business for many years. It has a long history and used to be known for stocking every imaginable pet ranging from parrots to monkeys! Of course, times have changed and now it actually doesn't sell any pets but does have a good choice of animal products on sale. If you crave the attention of pets, you will often be greeted by one of their pet cats sunbathing in the window or sitting on the till counter! It has a friendly feel to the place and the staff are helpful and will answer any queries you may have.

Palmers pet care have been a Camden institution for decades, and in recent years they had to move from much larger premises across the street to a smaller shop. They stock most varieties of premium cat and dog food, despite the smaller premises, including foods for specific breeds and conditions, very good quality toys, bedding and some fish foods. Unlike other irresponsible pet stores, Palmers have moved into the 21st century and they have stopped selling animals, which is a good thing as the sale of animals in shops encourages impulse buys that are followed by poor pet care and sometimes abandonment, and fund puppy mills and all sorts of disreputable animal breeders. If people really want a pet they can contact a rescue, which is the only humane way as animals are being put down at an alarming rate because people discard them. Staff at Palmers are concise, helpful and knowledgeable and always have a joke with me, so I'm not sure why other reviewers find them rude. Maybe it's just a subjective expectation thing, as I don't go to shops to get hugs and make friends but rather to buy what I need for that occasion, and at Palmers that is taken care of admirably.

I used to use this shop a lot. Yes they have pretty much everything you could need for your dog or cat. Unfortunately the staff who work there are so unfriendly despite being a regular and making an effort to make conversation with them. At times I found them to be quite rude and therefore I searched for an alternative. I now go to Primrose Hill Pets which is a smaller store and slightly further away for me, however the people in there are so much nicer which makes for a more pleasant customer experience. Also I have found that some items are marginally cheaper than Palmers. I would not recommend Palmers.
