This is my first Yelp! review but after the quality of food and service I received here, I almost felt obligated to give you guys a shoutout! Thanks to my amazingly attentive waiter Chrissy (You know, like from Three's Company.) I tried the Pulled Pork Pernil....What an amazing plate. The pork was juicy and tender, melting in your mouth as you bit into it. The Guatamalean slaw with the Fried Plantains tasted fresh and crispy. The blavk beans were not only a tasty but aesthetically pleasing addition to the plate. But, the thing that sent this dish over the edge was the coconut garlic rice. Superb and heavenly, you take a bite of this rice and think to yourself, "Holy shit! This is the best rice I've ever had in my life. What do they do to it?!"
An amazing dining experience from end to end. One that I will definitely enjoy many times.
Thank you Chrissy! You made our first date unforgettable. -

The fact that the entire menu is gluten free is amazing! Pulled pork pernil arepa was delicious, added a little bit of the habanero sauce that was at the table and it gave it the perfect amount of spice for me! My sister ordered the Vegetariana arepa, a little heavy on the tofu but still pretty good! We also ordered the Sangria, which i would recommend, very good flavor! It was a nice little sit down service with good food and a good atmosphere all around!

My partner and I went to this place because we love The Castro area and I am always looking out for more gluten free places to eat. The menu looks great, but we both found it a little difficult to navigate. We had no idea how big the dishes were going to be, or what they were. Some more description might be helpful. Unfortunately the person who took our order seemed too busy to be asked questions. There were pictures of the food on the walls but with no labels attached.
There is the option to eat in or take away and we chose the latter. I had the Pulled Pork Pernil Arepas which is like a round corn based pita bread, about the size of a burger. Although I found it very tasty, it was a bit too spicy for my liking and it left me with a burning mouth. My partner had the Grilled Chicken Arepas which she really enjoyed (it wasn't spicy). We also had a side of Yuca fries to share and these were delicious; they came as 5 large fries with a pot of home made guacamole. We were a little disappointed that the takeout food wasn't as described on the menu as the Arepas apparently should come with coleslaw.
Overall, I think this place will become a gem for people seeking good quality gluten free food when the restaurant has enough staff to deal with a busy Saturday afternoon lunch rush and if they offer a little more description on their menus to make the choice easier. However, this place has only been open for three weeks and so I have high hopes that these glitches will be resolved in due course.
Note that at the moment the restaurant only serves non-alcoholic drinks, but there is a notice on the window that they are currently in the process of trying to get a license to serve alcohol. -

My partner and I were happy to find out a new ethnic restaurant in the Castro with Latin flavor. We were excited and had a couple of friends join us.
We were greeted warmly and invitingly by the young woman when we walked in. There were very few tables on the main floor but happy to find out there's a second floor.
The young man upstairs who greeted us was nice, and he turned out to be our waiter/server as well. Unfortunately, it was a bumpy road on the way down from there.
First of all, it was chilly...so my friend ordered coffee. The waiter said they don't have any coffee!!! He said they don't even have hot water except for hot tap water! Seriously? No coffee when it's listed on your menu and you offer desserts?
Then my partner asked what a pica'pun is...the waiter does not know.
The appetizers (sweet tajadas, tres empanadas, plantain & taro chips) were good to very good. It would have been better if the waiter offered us small plates but that was not the case.
Soon after, when our sangria arrived, the waiter never returned to give us the water we asked for when we ordered sangria. At that time, he never looked back and never returned to ask how we are doing with the food or how everything is.
We waited and waited and waited and our food finally arrived via another person (a female server) and, before she rushed off, we asked her for some water. She looked puzzled that we didn't have our water yet.
I had the pulled pork pernil arepa. It was OK...but the plate was bare as it only had the arepa (which is quite small...even a BigMac sandwich is bigger) which is what they heavily promoted and what looks like cole slaw on the side. It was definitely NOT worth $10.75!! If they had at least put a few of the yuca fries to fill up the space on the plate, it would have been better.
My friend had the Grilled Steak with black beans, coconut rice, sweet plantains, avocado & Pica slaw. He said the steak was very very dry, and the coconut rice was very very sweet. He wanted to add some salt to the black beans, but there weren't any salt & pepper on the table!
My partner had the Crispy Chicken with black beans, yuca fries & Pica slaw. There were only THREE yuca fries...and the crispy chicken (which looks more like chicken nuggets) were very few and spread out on the plate so part of the plate is covered (I guess to make it look like they're giving out more portions).
For a THIRD location, you would think the owners would know at least the basic concept of what makes a good restaurant:
1) would be good if you have your restaurant name posted outside
2) waiters should know how to answer questions about the menu or at least say "You know I'm not sure...let me ask someone..."
3) waiters should come back EVEN JUST ONCE and ask how the food is and if customers need anything else
5) if customer asks for water....give them water.
6) offer small plates for your appetizers
7) look at the plate you're about to offer....is it bare? If so, maybe have better portions?
8) stop playing with the lights! just because one table of customers asked you to lower down the lights...it doesn't mean EVERY customer wants dimmer lights.
9) it's your first week of opening....have more staff readily available!
OK food and lousy service definitely were not worth the $80 we paid for.
We *may* come back in a few months....just to see if anything improves....but we highly doubt it considering a third location should have been perfect by now as the owners would have learned from past mistakes from the other 2 older locations.
