Xapakó

Food: 4.5. Came by for a Friday lunch. Place is small but comfortable. I ordered a Copa Estrella Damm beer and several items from their recommended list. I ordered the montadito d'ou amb pernil i sobrassada, variat de croquettes de l'avia, and patates braves. Food came out timely and at the right temperature. Food was very good. Fried items were crispy but not oily tasting. Staff was welcoming and efficient. Pricing seems real reasonable.

We visited this unassuming friendly place during our stay in Barcelona June 27th for our last night out. Paco, the owner waited on our party of 12 and was patient, attentive, and engaging. There are countless tapas bars in Barcelona but this deserves a visit for a few niche reasons. Firstly, if you are of the MTV generation and a fan of 80s music this is the place to watch MTV and enjoy traditional Spanish Catalan tapas. Second, if you like unique beers this too is the place to go. I asked Paco if he has a good beer and he pointed me to a few Belgian ales in the cooler but the. I spotted an unlabeled bottle and asked him about it. He said that is very good but expensive. My interest was peeks so I asked to see it. It was a Trappist Westvleteren 12 bottle. One of three he had in the cooler. If you don't know this is arguably one of the best beers in the world and certainly the best Trappist beer in the world. In the two weeks I spent in Spain and France this was the only place that sold it. The bottle was 19 euros but worth every bit. I savored every drop and even took the bootle cap and bottle back to the States with me. After our meal Paco brought out some other beers and shared them with me for free. He is a true host and I wish him and his family all the success with their restaurant. His type of hospitality is rare in the food business nowadays.


Trappist Westvleteren 12

This place doesn't look like much on the outside, but if you are looking for authentic Spanish tapas that are delicious at a really great price this is your spot. The vino and cervezo are so good and very cheap! The owners a husband and wife duo are amazing and speak very little English, but are so welcoming! When we finished our meal the owner brought over Jack Daniels to do a shot with my husband and I. We had so much food and they do have a menu with pictures to help. We had patas braves, rostes de Soria adobades, xistorra amb formatge Brie and Manchego cheeses. Very local spot - must try in Barcelona!

This place is very affordable, simple , delicious, and run by a very sweet bunch of people who make you feel welcome . My partner and I came here for a quick bite and ended up ordering a second round of food . We were also given two small dishes for free in between. Felt very welcomed.

It was our first night in Barcelona and we were starving! So, we set out to find some really tasty tapas as one should when visiting Barcelona. We ran across this small, cute cafe that was not very crowded. We felt like we were at home the second we walked in and were warmly greeted by the owner. We never got his name, but he was absolutely the most generous host one could ask for when dining in a new spot! He spoke very little English, but was so patient with us as we stumbled through our order. He suggested a few tapas we should try so we basically let him bring whatever the most popular dishes are! We ate from several dishes, but our favorites were the patatas bravas, pickled fish, and of course the jamon with cheese and jam. The service was spectacular as the owner of the restaurant went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. He asked us to write down a few of our favorite music artists and he played music over the loud speakers that we could jam to while we ate and enjoyed our first night in Barcelona! Then, he even offered to take a shot with us on the house before we left. We sat in the cafe for about 3 hours and never felt rushed. We made a pact to visit this spot at least a couple more times before we head home. Thank you for your generosity!

The trepidation one has in frequenting the same restaurant is that on subsequent visits; there's a great possibility that the food will be subpar. You're always chasing the first high! The joy in frequenting a restaurant when the food is as good, if not better, is worth the courage it takes to come again. Such is the case for our second visit to Bar Xapakó! This place is one of my FAVORITE THINGS of Barcelona! This hamberguesa especial...you better ask your mother!
