Totally overrated... This place is living of its hipster hype.
I stopped by on Saturday to get some coffee beans for my Espresso machine. I was out and going all the way to the city to get my usual roast from Die Rösterei seemed to much, so I thought I'll give this one a try. Reviews certainly looked good enough.

When I asked about the different espresso roasts they have I became sceptic though. With a proud smile that clerk told my that they are all 100% Arabica. She noticed my hesitance but ensured me they make a decent crema and have a strong enough taste even though they opted to leave the Robusta out altogether. Well, I'm sad to say that I fell for it. Now in stuck with half a kilo of Arabica that even over extracted tastes watery in comparison with a good real espresso roast.
But I didn't stop there. I actually wanted to give it a try in the cafe itself. Long story short, it didn't taste better at all. Yes, they do great Latte Art, the place looks modern and is full of life. So, if you love your coffee on the milky mild side and enjoy sitting down for it you actually might become​ happy here. But for coffee lovers which also look for coffee beans for their own machines, this place is a total bust!

Death to hipsters! It doesn't really matter how good the coffee is if all the people in front of and behind the counter are just horribly stereotypical hipsters with their skinny jeans, schmuck moustaches and embarrassing visual statement shirts/hatsThat would probably be the only bad thing about this place (apart from the fact that they don't have Wi-Fi, but maybe that's really for the better...imagine Insta hipsters and unlimited internet). The whole atmosphere makes you feel out of place and dare I say...too old for this shitThey are friendly, though, but not feeling comfortable because of the feel this place has to it subtracts substantially from a great coffee shop experience. Contactless card payment options or PayPal and the likes would be a great addition, the skinny jeans don't bulge too much if you only have to carry your phone+card with you; just a friendly suggestion.
The coffee itself is about as good as coffee gets (just an inch away from perfect), no bitter tastes and skillfully brewed. You don't get this level of taste at many places, needless to say not at Starbucks or any of the other shitty places! If you're in the area, grab one for take away but don't bother sitting down with this crowd.
Ironically, the guests and the staff at the Schanze outlet are very different (or they just don't feel so out of place like the chic Eppendorf clientele)

One of those places for coffee lovers. In every city there is a handful of them, that rarely disappoints.
This is the one in Eppendorf.
